Statement of Purpose
I paint flowers and objects I like, mainly for color and shape, and what I can do with them compositionally. The plastic structure of the painting is of paramount importance to me. By plastic, I mean sense of volume that originates from the surface and comes forward, not through, like conventional perspective.
Plasticity means you can sense the interval between the colors and the interval between forms. I read somewhere that “If your colors are correct, they’ll hold their visual position and create the illusion of form and space.”
To quote August Macke:
“I’m interested in creating a space through color contrast, rather than by simple shadows of light and dark. The most important thing for me is the direct observation of nature in its light-filled existence.”
